Illinois Brass Band to salute vets

The Illinois Brass Band will perform at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 22, at the Round Lake Beach Cultural and Civic Center, 2007 Civic Center Drive, off Hook Drive and west of Route 83.

The performance will feature “Images for Brass” by Stephen Bulla, former staff arranger to “The President’s Own” U.S. Marine Band and White House Orchestra. The work was written to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the battle of Iwo Jima.

Also to be performed is Bulla’s “Armed Forces Salute,” a tribute to the five major branches of the United States Military and other selections.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students or children younger than 14 and are available at the door. Reservations are not required.

Military personnel in uniform or veterans who wear their VFW or American Legion caps or jackets or other identifying articles will be admitted at no cost. Reduced price tickets will be available to spouses who accompany veterans or active military personnel.

The 30-member British style brass band is in its 20th year of performing. The band is a six-time national champion of the North American Brass Band Association.
