2 charged in Carpentersville robbery attempt

Two men who Carpentersville police arrested Wednesday after a robbery attempt at a wireless store were charged Thursday morning.

Christian A. Patino, 17, and Francisco J. García, 19, both of Carpentersville, appeared in bond court on felony charges of attempted armed robbery and possession of a weapon by a felon, according to court documents. Information is not available on previous charges because they date to their juvenile records. Though Patino is still a minor, he is being charged in adult court.

According to Carpentersville police Cmdr. Timothy Bosshart, here is what happened:

Police were called at 10:52 a.m. Wednesday to MBC Wireless, a T-Mobile Boost supplier at 91 S. Kennedy Drive.

Two men had ordered an employee to the floor, Patino armed with a gun and García with a knife. But another employee in the back of the store began to yell and ran out the back door, which prompted the two men to flee.

Carpentersville police showed up soon after and were able to track down Patino and García in a home on Meadowlark Lane by 11:07.

“It was pretty quick,” Bosshart said. “They did a good job.”

When police arrived at the house, where Patino lists his own address, they spoke with Patino’s sister, who was just arriving from a shopping trip. Bosshart said she told police her brother was not allowed in the house when no one else was home and she had been unaware the two men fled to that location.

Bail was set at $100,000 for both Patino and García, of which the men must pay 10 percent to be released before their next court dates. Patino is scheduled to appear May 26 and Garcia on May 27, both in St. Charles.

If convicted of attempted armed robbery, the men could qualify for an extended term of 30 years in prison.
