60th Illinois Match Play Championship
There will be a new champion crowned Thursday at the 60th Illinois PGA Match Play Championship at Kemper Lakes Golf Club.
Defending champ Travis Johns (Twin Lakes Golf Club) was defeated by Mike Carbray (Butterfield CC) 1 Up in Round 4 of the match play tourament on Wednesday. Carbray, however, was defeated by three-time champion Steve Benson of Buffalo Grove in the quarterfinals, 2 & 1. The other quarterfinal winners advancing are Rich Dukelow of Orland Park (Cantigny Golf), two-time champion Jim Sobb of Barrington (Ivanhoe Club), and Brian Brown of Clarendon Hills (Naperville CC). Falling in the quarterfinals were Curtis Malm of Aurora (St. Charles CC), Kyle Bauer of Arlington Heights (Glen View Club), and Kyle Sanders of Wheaton (Chicago GC).
The semifinals matches will begin at 8 a.m. Thursday at Kemper Lakes, with the final match at 12:30 p.m.
