Services set for Aurora fire victims

Funeral arrangements have been set for the family members who perished in a weekend fire in Aurora.

Visitation for Francisco and Jose Marcos and their parents, Micaela Perez and Francisco Marcos, Sr., will be held from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at James Funeral Service, 204 Hill Ave. in Aurora, according to a news release from East Aurora Unit District 131. Visitation is open to the public. Final arrangements will be held in Mexico.

In addition to the four Marcos family members, the fire at 760 Claim Street on Aurora’s East side took the lives of two others, identified Wednesday by the Kane County Coroner’s office as Christina Dominguez Navarro, 35, and 8-month-old Alex Gonzaga.

Twelve people were injured in the early Sunday morning fire. A cause has not been determined. Fire officials say several “non-suspicious” sources are being investigated. Investigators have been unable to rule out several possible causes that could have sparked the fire, including an electrical arc from a TV or an unattended candle.

The three-story building had 10 units and at least 24 occupants, all of whom were displaced.

School officials say donations “are desperately needed for the families of the deceased and those who have been displaced by the fire. Monetary donations will be prioritized for assistance to the families of the deceased and all other donations will be dedicated to the displaced families. At this time, those families are in need of toiletries the most.”

Contributions are payable to “Victims of the 760 Claim St. fire” under account No. 10101046703 at Old Second National Bank in Aurora.

Checks can be taken or mailed to Bautista Emanuel Church, 742 Claim St., or to any Old Second Bank branch. All toiletries may be dropped off at the church.

School officials are encouraging all schools, community partners and residents to assist with the fundraising and donation efforts.
