Dedication Sunday for Batavia band shell
Batavians will dedicate the band shell at the Peg Bond Center on the Riverwalk Sunday.
Construction of the Performing Arts Pavilion finished last fall. The dedication kicks off a full season of musical and other performances.
It took three years to plan the addition, raise money for it and build it. The project is the brainchild of the Batavia Parks Foundation, which supports the Batavia Park District. The park district owns the Riverwalk, which is at Houston Street and Island Avenue.
“This is the latest successful project completed in Batavia due to the strong sense of community held by our residents, local businesses, service organizations and governmental agencies,” said Dan Brace, Batavia Parks Foundation chairman, in a prepared statement. “It is the result of hundreds of volunteers and donors who got involved to make it happen. What has been accomplished is very impressive.”
Sunday’s festivities will start with the dedication at 2 p.m. and run until 8 p.m. Attendees should bring a lawn chair or blanket upon which to sit.
The schedule is:
2:15 p.m.: Aurora Youth Symphony
3:15 p.m.: Electric String Orchestra
4 p.m.: Batavia Academy of Dance
4:30 p.m.: Red Tie Trio
5:15 p.m.: Batavia Academy of Dance
5:45 p.m.: Albright Theatre
7 p.m.: Field Day
The paddleboats will also be available for rental, at a cost of $10 per half-hour.
The event is presented by the foundation, the district, Batavia MainStreet and the city of Batavia.
