Canoe, kayak race to draw 1,000 paddlers
Once you’ve dipped the family paddles into the water and gotten hooked, make a date to either enter or watch the Mid America Canoe and Kayak Race, celebrating its 50th year.
One of the largest in the world with up to 1,000 watercraft pursuing the finish line, the race was originally for hard core paddlers, according to Jeff Long, race director.
“In the last 15 years or so, the race has evolved to include recreational paddlers so it appeals to people of all skills,” he explained. “It’s really a celebration of the Fox River and it’s definitively an event for families. This year’s edition takes place on Sunday, June 5. Get details at foxvalleyparkdistrict.org.
