COD's CIT program earns national designation for 4011 Certification
The Computer and Internetworking Technologies program at College of DuPage has received an important national certification that will assist students who apply for information systems jobs in which national security standards must be upheld.
The CIT program now meets the Committee on National Security Systems training standard for the Information Systems Security Professionals 4011 certification. This resulted from program faculty mapping their curriculum to courseware specifications set by the National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security's jointly sponsored National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education initiative.
Due to this national certification, COD students who complete specified CIT and Criminal Justice courses are recognized as being trained to serve as Information Systems Security Professionals or Information Systems Security Officers. They will receive a certificate stating they have completed a program of study certified by CNSS.
CNSS 4011 standards apply to all U.S. government departments and agencies and their contractors. Students also can use the designation to demonstrate that they possess the knowledge and skills needed to oversee and protect critical information infrastructures and networks.
Joanne Wagner, CIT professor and program coordinator, said COD plans to build on this important designation by developing a degree and certificate program for Information Systems Security 4011 Professionals.
