Man charged after Glen Ellyn stand off ends

A domestic disturbance led to a stand off with police at a Glen Ellyn apartment complex early Monday and criminal charges filed against a 35-year-old man, authorities said.

Eric J. Rego, of the 400 block of Kenilworth Avenue, was charged with aggravated domestic battery and aggravated battery after police say he barricaded himself inside his apartment and became uncooperative with authorities following an argument with his wife.

Rego’s 35-year-old wife came to the Glen Ellyn Police Department at about 5:30 a.m. to report that he had beaten her. She had injuries to her face, but refused medical attention, according to Deputy Police Chief Bill Holmer.

After barricading himself inside the apartment, Rego threatened to harm himself, Holmer said.

A SWAT team from the DuPage County Sheriff’s Department gained entry to the apartment and took the Rego into custody about 9:45 a.m., Holmer said.

Rego was with a parole violation, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of marijuana.

He was taken to GlenOaks Hospital in Glendale Heights for observation, and later transported to the DuPage County Jail for processing.
