Aurora police: New information on missing boy
Police released hopeful information Monday night regarding their search for a missing 6-year-old Aurora boy who was last seen with his now deceased mother on Friday.
Authorities looking through photos of items in the vehicle left at a Rockford motel where the boy's mother killed herself noticed Timothy Pitzen's child safety seat and Spider-man backpack were both missing from the SUV.
“The discovery could lend credence to a working theory detectives have that Amy could have possibly dropped Timothy off with a friend or acquaintance,” the Aurora Police Department announced Monday night.
A note in the motel room where Amy Fry-Pitzen was found dead from an apparent suicide indicated Timothy was fine and was in the care of unnamed people, according to police.
Detectives looking through Amy Fry-Pitzen's credit card receipts were also able to confirm she purchased children's clothes and toys from a store in Racine, Wis., on Thursday morning at around 11:15 a.m., according to police.
Cellphone records indicate Amy and Timothy were then in Sterling, Ill.. between about noon and 1:30 p.m. Friday where Amy made several calls to friends and family. One relative spoke with Timothy, the last he was heard from, who said the boy did not sound like he was in danger, according to authorities.
Timothy Pitzen was last seen with his mother leaving the Kalahari Resort in the Wisconsin Dells at about 10:10 a.m. Friday. A surveillance video shows them checking out of the hotel with Timothy wearing a brown T-shirt and possibly blue shorts with white socks, according to police.
Police were also able to track credit card receipts to a Qwik-Trip store located just off I-94 in Johnson Creek, Wis., at about 2:20 p.m. Friday where Amy Fry-Pitzen purchased gas and beverages.
Amy Fry-Pitzen picked up her son unexpectedly from his Aurora elementary school early Wednesday morning without telling her family or friends and spent the afternoon at the Brookfield Zoo, police said. They then spent the night at the Key Lime Cove Resort in Gurnee Wednesday night, traveled to the Wisconsin Dells, and were at the Kalahari Resort until around 10:10 a.m. Friday.
Amy Fry-Pitzen was found dead in a Rockford motel room early Saturday afternoon from an apparent suicide, but police said Timothy was not with her when she was seen at about 8 p.m. Friday at a grocery store in Winnebago, Ill. She was also alone when checking into the Rockford Inn between 11:15 and 11:30 p.m. Friday.
Aurora Police are working with several jurisdictions in Illinois, Wisconsin and Iowa along with a team sent from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children who are assisting Aurora Police.
“The team is made up of former law enforcement professionals and investigators who have additional resources at their disposal,” according to the Aurora Police Department.
Police are processing Amy's home and work computers in an effort to cultivate additional leads in the case.
