Local girls sought to explore green energy technology

Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois will host a one-week activity camp for local girls, grades 4-8, centered on the "It's Your Planet—Love It!" Girl Scout Leadership Journey Series!

Girls in grades 4-5 will be motivated as they "Get Moving!" and explore their own energy. These girls will conduct an energy audit of their meeting place and review their families' use of energy at home. Girls will also learn about electrical circuits and make conductive dough. Girls in grades 6-8 will "Breathe" as they explore the air around them and learn about air-clearing strategies. These girls will create a symphony of noise, learn about green energy and construct a windmill to make a buzzer sound or light up a light!

The It's Your Planet—Love It! camp will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, June 13, through Friday, June 17, at the Sugar Grove Community House, 141 S. Main St. in Sugar Grove. Cost is $40 per girl, and includes lunch for all five days, snacks, T-shirt, Girl Scout book, and all program supplies. Registration ends May 23. To register, contact Pam Schnecke at (847) 741-5521, ext. 7140 or pschnecke@girlscoutsni.org.

This opportunity is open to local girls in Aurora, Big Rock, Bristol, Hinckley, Little Rock, Millbrook, Montgomery, Moosehart, North Aurora, Oswego, Plano, Plattville, Sugar Grove and Yorkville. All program activities are provided courtesy of a generous grant from the Fox Valley United Way.
