Palatine turns out to help Misericordia
The sun finally came out, and so did our good and loyal friends. We want to thank the wonderfully generous people of Palatine who answered this year’s Candy Day call to help support the Misericordia residents and staff. The Red and White clad volunteers manned our corners and stores. You responded as you always do.
This annual act of charity for the 600+ residents of Misericordia reached a new level. Even in these financially difficult times, with the rising costs of your own basic needs, you opened your heart and pocketbook to help others who are less fortunate. Your caring support is greatly appreciated and has made this year’s drive a shining success.
Plaudits are in order. We could not do this without our great volunteers. Some have been with us since our first effort, some were out for the very first time. They come with a smile on their faces and love in their hearts.
We are indebted to all; the veterans for their leadership and loyalty and the youth from St. Viator, Fremd and Palatine high schools for their excited enthusiasm. Coordinated direction is always essential to the success of any large endeavor and the members of our Leadership Team, most from our Twice Blest Thrift Shop, have met the challenge. We are grateful for all involved and invite you to join them on next year’s team.
William Shakespeare penned the following words many years ago but they still speak directly to each of you today:
“The quality of mercy is not strained. It droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven Upon the place beneath. It is twice blest: It blesseth him that gives and him that takes.#148;We appreciate your unselfish mercy and want you to know that in our eyes you are truly blessed.
The lives of the residents of Misericordia will be better because so many people care. Thank you once more for your generosity. See you next year.
