Obama rhetoric purely political
In today’s Daily Herald, there was a letter from Mr. Thorn Randall criticizing a previous letter by a Mr. Leafblad. Randall claimed that by killing bin Laden, Obama did in two years what the dithering Bush-Cheney regime failed to do in seven years.
Like several Democrats, Randall displayed his ignorance by ignoring some historical data. If Obama had been president at the time of 9/11 and his present policies were in effect then, bin Laden would still be alive and living in Pakistan. Only by measures which Bush initiated was bin Laden killed.
Credit for killing him, besides the Navy SEALS and the CIA, should also have been given to Bush. Did Obama do this? No, but he repeatedly used the pronoun “I” in his announcement of bin Laden’s death. No lack of humility there.
In a separate issue, Obama, in campaigning in the Southwest, spoke of comprehensive immigration reform, and is blaming Republicans for the failure to achieve it. He stated that no matter what he does, his foes would demand more. He said that. “Maybe they’ll need a moat. Maybe they’ll want alligators in the moat.”
Is this the type of rhetoric we want to hear from a president? When running for election, Obama promised change. Instead he has become a divider, not a unifier.
Obama had the opportunity to achieve comprehensive immigration reform during his first two years in office. The Democrats controlled both Houses of Congress and the White House, but he failed to do so. Why? He would have alienated several major labor unions and the AFL-CIO.
Now, he is trying to appeal to the Hispanic vote by blaming the Republicans. Does he really believe that the Hispanic voters are gullible enough to believe this when he could have achieved reform previously?
