Metra to expand quiet cars to all lines in June
The people have spoken — quietly, of course — in favor of Metra's "quiet cars" concept.
The commuter rail service will expand the quiet cars to all of its lines starting June 6.
Metra launched a 3-month test of quiet cars on its Rock Island Line in January. Officials say feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with 84 percent of survey respondents saying they're in favor of the cars.
There will be two quiet cars on each train.
No cell phone calls are allowed, and those who do answer their phones must move to vestibules or other cars, or keep conversations short.
Passengers must also mute all electronic devices and no other riders should be able to hear music or sound from headphones. The designated quiet cars will be identified with signs.
