Voters must elect smarter candidates

Gov. Quinn’s recent “deal” to keep Motorola from moving out of the state amounts to bribery via tax incentives.

Private sector jobs generate income tax, real estate taxes, and all the support commerce for the producer. The state has enjoyed the benefits of a hosting a company like Motorola for many years without “incentives.” Gov. Quinn has little to no experience outside the public sector and knows that he can get votes by promising tax payer money. He’s hoping the same thing works for Motorola. Other companies in Illinois will try to figure out how to get a similar deal.

We need leadership that understands what really attracts and keeps businesses in Illinois without giving up income sources. As a business person with operations in two states, I prefer to invest in a state that has a balanced government that operates in a fiscally responsible manner, a reasonable workers’ compensation system, entitlement programs with less fraud and abuse, and fewer career politicians where they and their families build empires on the backs of the tax payers. Create an environment where companies want to be here!

Gov. Quinn is limited to his narrow not-for-profit and public sector experience. Getting mad at him for not having understanding business is like getting mad at a dog for being a dog. What I’m disappointed in are the Illinois voters who keep on electing people like Pat Quinn, Rod Blagojevich, Todd Stroger and others who are simply incapable of understanding that every dollar spent by government had to be earned in the private sector somewhere.
