Cancer society to host walk in Libertyville

Make a difference in the fight against cancer by participating as walkers, skaters or bicyclists Sunday at the American Cancer Society’s Walk & Roll at Independence Grove

Participants can choose to walk 5 miles, bike 15 miles, or skate 10 miles at the forest preserve, 16400 W. Buckley Road, near Libertyville.

Registration begins at 8 a.m., an opening ceremony is at 9 a.m. and the routes open at 9:30 a.m. At noon, the closing ceremony will begin and feature live entertainment and a cookout for participants.

One of the cancer society’s largest annual fundraisers in Illinois, Walk & Roll is expected to raise approximately $1 million statewide and help people stay well and get well, to fund and find new cures and to rally people to fight back.

The event allows the American Cancer Society to be there through every step of the cancer journey, providing free resources and support.

Walk & Roll is a chance for teams of friends, families and co-workers to come together to fight cancer. Participants annually raise funds before the event, often commemorate friends and family who have lost their lives to cancer or honor those who are struggling with the disease.

There is a $15 registration fee for all participants ages 18 or older. Participants are encouraged to raise $100 to receive a free event T-shirt. Most participants aim for a goal of $250 or more.

For details or to register, call Katie Oshinski at the American Cancer Society’s Lake County Regional Office, (847) 317-0025, ext. 3, or visit www.walkroll.org.

Other Walk & Roll events on Sunday are at Harms Woods, Skokie, and Chicago’s Grant Park, Upper Hutchinson Field.
