Cougars’ offense wakes up
The Kane County Cougars’ offense is back.
After going nearly three weeks without scoring more than 5 runs in a game and averaging 2.3 runs over the last 16 games, the Cougars scored eight times on 13 hits Tuesday night to beat the Beloit Snappers 8-4 in the opener of a six-game home stand at Elfstrom Stadium.
The Cougars scored in each of the first five innings, providing starter Sugar Ray Marimon (2-2) with plenty of support.
Brian Fletcher nailed a 2-run single in the first against Andrei Lobanov (0-2) to make it 2-0.
Murray Watts belted a one-out solo homer in the second and the rout was on.
and Beloit scored a run in the top of the third, Fletcher nailed RBI singles in the third and fourth and Lane Adams added a run-scoring single for a 6-1 lead.
Alex Llanos’ two-out, 2-run single in the fifth made it 8-1.
Marimon lasted 5 innings, gave up 1 run and struck out seven for the win.
