Twenty-five Future Business Leaders of America students from Grayslake North High School attended a sports seminar led by the Kane County Cougars.
The seminar included a history of the organization, a discussion of marketing strategies and a presentation on careers related to the sports and entertainment industry.
Students had the opportunity to ask questions about the organization or career pathways. The recurring theme was work hard, find an opportunity to prove yourself, pursue internships and take control.
Shawn Touney, director of public relations for the Cougars, emphasized making the most of every opportunity to learn, to improve communication skills and to network with people who would facilitate your future career.
Other schools in attendance at the seminar included Stevenson, Lyons Township, Wheaton Warrenville South, East/West Leyden, Harvard, Waubonaise Valley and East Aurora.
“It was a great team bonding experience. It was a fun learning environment and gave us time to be with friends and cheer on the Cougars,” senior Ruben Robles said.
Senior Shikha Sodhi added, “It was great to learning more about careers related to the sports industry.”
At the conclusion of the seminar, everyone had time to watch the pregame activities and enjoy the game between the Quad City Riverbandits and the Cougars.
