Elgin-O’Hare crash still under investigation
Authorities are still investigating a five-car accident that occurred Tuesday in the eastbound lanes of the Elgin-O’Hare Expressway, officials said.
Four people were injured in the crash that took place at 7:23 a.m., said Illinois State Police spokeswoman Maria Navarro, and were taken to local hospitals. None suffered life-threatening injuries, Navarro said.
She said a silver Honda was heading west on the Elgin-O’Hare when it crossed the concrete median and into the eastbound lanes, then rolled over.
After it crossed over into the oncoming lanes, a red Chevrolet SUV, a silver Cadillac, a silver Toyota and a black Lincoln pickup truck crashed when they either swerved out of the way or slammed on their brakes trying to avoid the crash.
Navarro said it remains unclear how the Honda was able to cross the concrete median in the middle of the highway.
The Elgin-O’Hare was closed between Roselle Road and Lake Street while the accident was cleaned up, but it reopened to all eastbound traffic at 8:45 a.m.
