Cougars blanked by Chiefs

The sagging Kane County Cougars were shut out for the first time this season, dropping a 4-0 decision to the host Peoria Chiefs on Monday at O’Brien Field.

Leonel Santiago (2-4) gave the Cougars their seventh quality start in the last 11 games. But he took the loss, allowing 2 runs and 6 hits in 7 innings.

The Cougars have lost 14 of their last 16 games. They managed only 2 hits and were unable to take advantage of 6 walks. Ryan Stovall singled in the first and Yowill Espinal beat out a bunt in the third inning, accounting for the hits.
