Daley hosts public farewell gathering
Chicago’s longest-serving mayor in history spent Monday afternoon saying goodbye to residents at a city hall open house.
Mayor Richard M. Daley shook hands, posed for pictures and visited with residents. Daley announced last year that he wouldn’t seek a seventh term. He first took office in 1989.
Hundreds of residents lined up to share a minute with the outgoing mayor. Earlier in the day Daley greeted about 1,000 invited guests. An Irish bagpipe band played music.
Mayor-elect Rahm Emanuel takes office May 16.
