Lake Park catches up to Naperville Central

Lake Park rarely sees this kind of speed from pitchers in the Upstate Eight Conference.

Needless to say, the Lancers caught up.

The No. 18 Lancers jumped on No. 9 Naperville Central for 8 runs over the first three innings en route to a 12-5 win on Saturday in Naperville.

Vanessa Wegner’s two-run double capped a four-run first inning, Tara Palandri singled and scored twice and Shannon Fritsche went 2-for-5 for Lake Park (16-8), which banged out 15 hits against Redhawks pitchers Kristina Vizza and Keegan Hayes.

“Those two pitchers are as fast as anybody we see in our conference,” Lancers coach Tom Mazzie said. “It’s nice to see that the girls were ready to go. I can’t say enough about how good they hit.”

Kaitlyn Skarecky had a two-run single and 3 RBI for Naperville Central (16-6), playing without starters Kelsey Gonzalez and Meghan Griffin.

York 8, Elmwood Park 6:Tessa Kroll and Alyssa Johnson homered and winning pitcher Nicolette Salerno went 2-for-3 for the Dukes (13-12).
