GOP wants to cut rules that protect people

OSHA is celebrating its 40th year. Over the decades, it has made a substantial improvement to the safety in the workplace.

As a worker in a medical related field, I am very aware of what OSHA has done over the years to make all of our jobs safer, and insure that we can all go home to our families at the end of the day. The protective standards that OSHA has enforced have saved countless lives and injuries over the decades.

Unfortunately, many Republican members of Congress and the Senate want to drastically cut funding to OSHA as well as the EPA, FDA, and many other regulatory agencies within our government. All these cuts are declared in the name of cutting government spending, and reducing our national debt.

This is not the truth. These regulatory agencies account for a tiny fraction of our nation’s budget. I agree that they could be made more efficient and cut wasteful spending, but this is not the reason Republicans want these programs cut.

The true reason they want to cut these program’s funding is to loosen the restrictions on giant corporations so that they can increase their profits! Workers’ safety, pollution and consumer safety are all expensive.

Cutting regulations does not save the government and taxpayers money. But it does save loads of money for the corporations. The same corporations that funnel millions of dollars into political campaign coffers.
