Hampshire woman killed in car crash

A 24-year-old Hampshire woman died Thursday in a crash with a semitrailer truck near Virgil, police said.

Stephanie Lynn Erd was driving her 2004 Dodge Neon eastbound on Illinois Route 64 near Meredith Road when her car drifted over the centerline for an unknown reason and crashed into a semitrailer heading westbound, according to the Kane County Sheriff’s Department.

Erd was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said. The driver of the truck was treated at the scene.

Route 64 was shut down until about 10 p.m. Thursday while the crash was investigated.

The sheriff’s department is being assisted with the investigation by the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team.

No citations have been issued, officials said Friday.
