Ready to work together for Stevenson
Congratulations go to Bruce Lubin, Merv Roberts, Terry Moons and David Weisberg on their recent election to the Stevenson school board.
Being the target of ongoing untruths, enduring personal smear emails and suffering character assassinations during our run for the Stevenson school board was disheartening. Unmannered and untrue accusations do a disservice to our community and discourage good intentioned citizens from running for public office. Kathy Powell, Kim Brady and myself are committed Stevenson parents desiring to make our high school a better place. Open discussion of important community issues with civil and thoughtful debate is good for all of our families, for our society, and ultimately for America.
We want to assure the hundreds of voters which we met during the campaign that we will continue to encourage board members to cut spending in non critical areas. Every candidate running for election voiced our commitment to educational excellence and in finding ways to promote and retain the very best teachers. Meeting that long-term goal will mean that teachers dream, trust, and assist in writing new policies and work rules which the Stevenson board can adopt. With a new teacher’s contract on the table, it is imperative that board members and teachers begin a transparent out-of-the box dialogue which considers a long-term funding plan that would give District 125 taxpayers a break.
This board has pledged to listen to residents in a new way. It is my humble opinion that the best ideas and the best days of Stevenson’s academic, athletic and arts achievements lie yet ahead. As we dream, plan, work and execute together, we can provide an even better learning environment that will be the envy of every high school in the United States.
