Nothing courageous about GOP budget

Courageous is the word I’ve heard repeated time and time again by Republican politicians praising Paul Ryan’s 2012 Budget. This couldn’t be more disingenuous and insulting to the American people.

There is nothing courageous about passing a budget that rests primarily on the backs of the poor, the elderly, and the disabled. And even the mention of raising taxes on the wealthy is received by the Republicans with the often repeated, but never truthful response that the rich are the “job-creators,” so we can’t possibly ask them for more.

The myth of trickle-down economics has been dispelled time and time again by revered economists. And, does anyone find it ironic that as taxes on the wealthy have continued to decline, the disparity between the rich and poor in America has reached an astounding level, and our economy is suffering on the brink of a Great Depression.

So, if you want any of us to believe in your courage, stop making decisions that benefit corporations over people, that benefit the wealthy at the expense of the poor and middle class, and that push an ideological agenda forward while moving a nation backward. Lisa Kennedy
