Awash in trivia about William, Kate

I just need to take a moment and say thank goodness our media was on the job. If it hadn’t been for countless hours of research, attention to accuracy and outstanding reporting, we as a nation might not have known the speculated list of 20 or so designers who might have designed Kate’s dress in the days leading up to the big wedding. Without the daily coverage, we might have missed out on learning that among the countless William and Kate souvenirs, GE has created a refrigerator with their image on the front. If not for the many network affiliate remotes, we might have missed that the $32 million affair included a flower-charge of almost $1 million (money well spent for this family with a divine right).

Luckily for us, depressing and boring information about the wars in Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya was pushed to the back of newscasts and newspapers. Glossed over is the fact that almost all of the individuals who caused the financial crisis are still in charge of the markets. Not even finding its way into the news: 16,000 children around the world die from starvation every day.

Sadly, my alarm clock didn’t wake me up (AM/PM got me!), but I heard on the national news that nearly 2 billion people watched the event. Fortunately for me, it’s being replayed, talked about, and written about ad nauseam so I can stay focused on what’s important . . . until the new “Real Housewives” comes on!
