It’s up, up, up on my tax bill

I was traveling recently and came home to my property tax bill. At first glance, I noticed I was paying less out of pocket than last year. Then I decided to really look into the rate and here is what I found.

Kane County, up 9.6 percent; county pension, up 10 percent; forest preserve, up 10.2 percent; forest preserve pension, up 9 percent; Geneva Township, up 4.1 percent; township road district, up 4.1 percent; city of Geneva, up 9.9 percent; city pension, up 9.9 percent; Geneva School District 304, up 8.2 percent; District 304 pension, up 8.2 percent; Waubonsee Community College, up 1.5 percent; Geneva Park District, up 4.8 percent; park district pension, up 104 percent; Geneva library, up 1.5 percent; and finally the winner was the library pension, up 173 percent. All this on top of a 67-percent state income tax increase.

My “non government” personal income, minus 18 percent.

When will it all end? I feel like I should rent a Porsche — I can’t afford to buy one — and drive 104 mph, out of the state. But first I will stop and enjoy all the new acreage the forest preserve will buy. I wonder what next year’s bill will bring?
