4 hurt in semi crash on I-88
A semi-tractor heading west on Interstate 88 crashed into four vehicles in heavy traffic early Wednesday evening, injuring four people, according to police.
The driver of the semi, a Waukegan man, caved in the back of a 2009 Honda Acord on I-88 near Route 59 just before 6 p.m. After pushing the vehicle to the side, the truck then struck the back of a 2005 Subaru Legacy, police said.
The truck driver and drivers of the other two vehicles were seriously injured in the crash, but the injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, officials said.
All three people were transported to Edward Hospital, said Naperville Fire Department Captain Kevin Lyne.
One westbound lane remained closed near until after 7 p.m. as crews worked to move the semi-tractor, which has snapped its front axel, off the road, said Illinois State Police Sgt. Julio Serrano.Police said the driver of the truck, who remained at the hospital Wednesday, will likely be cited for failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident.Fire officials said two other vehicles were damaged in the crash and a fourth victim was injured, but refused treatment.
