Pols should show sacrifice starts at top

If “Charity begins at home,” doesn’t sacrifice also begin at home? I haven’t heard or read of Rep Paul Ryan’s tax-cutting reform budget proposing any cuts in Congressmen’s and Senators’ salaries, retirement benefits and health insurance benefits — much less cuts comparable to proposed cuts in Medicare, Social Security and Medicaid.

Since the U.S. government has to cut entitlement benefits to the soon-to-be-elderly and those down on their luck, why doesn’t the GOP set the example and include proposed cuts to politicians’ own entitlement income and benefits?

Granted, it would be just a “drop in the bucket” in terms of dollar amount but it would show voters that everyone has to sacrifice and that it starts “at the top” not with those at the bottom.
