Mayor, city council members sworn in

Inauguration of Mayor, Three Council Members Took Place on Sunday, May 1

Naperville's new and re-elected Mayor and City Council members were sworn in during an hour-long ceremony on Sunday, May 1 at 2 p.m. in Council Chambers of the Naperville Municipal Center, 400 S. Eagle St.

“I am pleased and honored to welcome our new councilmen, Steve Chirico and Joseph J. McElroy, to the Naperville City Council,” Mayor A. George Pradel said. “These are two exemplary individuals who have served our community for many years and bring a multitude of quality experience to our City Council. I am equally as pleased to welcome back those Council members that were re-elected. Robert Fieseler and Grant Wehrli have both proven their desire to serve Naperville and be the voice of our residents.”

Judge John W. Darrah of the United States District Court, Northern District of Illinois, swore in Mayor Pradel. Judge Robert G. Gibson of the 18th Judicial Circuit Court swore in Councilmen Chirico, McElroy and Wehrli. Councilman Fieseler was unable to attend the inauguration and will be sworn in by City Clerk Pam LaFeber prior to the Tuesday, May 3 City Council meeting.

Reflections of their time served on the City Council were provided by James Boyajian and Richard Furstenau prior to the swearing-in portion of the event. The new and re-elected City Council members also shared thoughts with those in attendance.

The newly elected councilmen will join current Council members Judith Brodhead, Paul Hinterlong, Douglas Krause and Kenn Miller on the Council.

The inauguration will be re-broadcast throughout May on the city's government access channel, WCNC (Channel 6 – WOW, Channel 10 – Comcast and Channel 99 – AT&T).
