Lombard Police Chief Ray Byrne today announced that a veteran police lieutenant has been appointed as the agency's new Deputy Chief.

Tom Wirsing is a 16-year veteran of the Lombard Police Department who has worked his way through the ranks, and has supervised the Investigations Division for the last seven years. Wirsing has also served in several specialized capacities such as field training officer, detective, evidence technician and juvenile officer.

Wirsing has a bachelor's degree from Western Illinois University and is a graduate of the Northwestern University's School of Police Staff and Command. In making the appointment, Byrne stated, “Tom's strong background in practical law enforcement combined with his management skills make him an ideal candidate to serve as the agency's Deputy Chief of Administrative Services. He is an excellent leader who enjoys the respect of the men and women who have worked for him.”

Wirsing will begin his duties immediately, as well as help to transition the supervision of the Investigations Division in the next several weeks.

“I am honored to have been chosen for this position as my fellow candidates were all deserving,” stated Wirsing. “I am looking forward to serving the residents of Lombard in this capacity,” he added.
