Cougars fall in 12 innings
The Kane County Cougars opened up a six-game homestand on a sour note Sunday, falling 5-4 in 12 innings to the Cedar Rapids Kernels before 6,153 at Elfstrom Stadium in Geneva.
Geulin Beltre of the Cougars (8-16) drilled a clutch 2-run double in the bottom of the 11th inning that tied the score 4-4, but the Kernels pushed across a run in the 12th and held on for the victory.
For the third game in a row, the Cougars received a quality start. Leondy Perez gave up 1 unearned run on 6 hits in 6 innings with 4 strikeouts and 2 walks in a no-decision. Matt Mitchell worked 1 innings of scoreless relief.
The Cougars’ Brian Fletcher had an RBI double and Murray Watts contributed an RBI single.
