Buy American: Our stuff is better
Ten or 15 years ago, Japanese autos (Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Subaru) were superior to most American autos such as Ford, Chrysler and General Motors.
European autos such as VW, BMW, Saab, Mercedes, Audi, Volvo, Land Rover, Jaguar, also were good. Today, Detroit’s cars are as good as or better than foreign cars. This is true for trucks made here.
The trade balance with foreign countries, especially Asian, is dismal. What American-made products do Asian countries get from us? There is no doubt a portion our stagnant economy is due to our reluctance to buy American-made cars and trucks. We seem to be our own worst enemy.
Buying upscale foreign cars is a mistake. Some may feel they show their successful lifestyle by driving expensive foreign autos. Cadillac, Buick or Lincoln have excellent high-end autos. Someone who has arrived financially, but may not be a good citizen, drives a Rolls-Royce or a Bentley.
Check the labels on merchandise you buy. If you have a choice, buy American-made cars, trucks, tools, clothing, anything made in America.
