Fire evacuates Hoffman Estates condos

Fire evacuated a three-story condominium building in Hoffman Estates late Friday, but officials said no one was hurt.

Firefighters responded at 9:46 p.m. to an activated alarm at 715 Heritage Drive. Officials said they encountered light smoke in a common hallway upon arrival, and traced the fire to a bedroom in one of the condominiums.

The crew consisting of 19 firefighters and a deputy chief used a hose to quickly knock down the flames, officials said Saturday. The building was then assessed for any residual fire.

Hoffman Estates fire officials credited smoke detectors for having already prompted evacuation by the time were called to the scene. One resident was assessed for possible injuries, but declined further treatment, according to a news release.

The fire’s cause was under investigation.
