Stop jerks who give Elgin black eye
I have been a resident of Elgin for more than 20 years now and I’m writing to express my sadness over an incident that happened over the weekend at the Elgin Sports Complex.
Coach Larry Hight of the Larkin High School softball team started a yearly event some time ago inviting softball teams from around Illinois to attend a round robin format tournament every March for a chance to play quality games vs. quality teams at the Elgin Sports Complex.
Unfortunately, once again Elgin gets a black eye from individuals who cannot seem to represent their town with pride by breaking into several cars while games were being played.
I can just imagine the visitors’ voices on their rides back home on how bad Elgin is, how unsafe Elgin is, how they would never live in Elgin. It’s too bad that strangers or visitors have to think badly of Elgin, but what’s even worse is that I had those same thoughts.
Image and perception is everything and we all need for the Elgin Police Department to step up so the lawbreaking people start hearing that little voice, “You’re under arrest.”
