Sentencing in Yang case delayed

The sentencing hearing for a Chicago woman convicted of killing a Deerfield woman and an unborn child will not begin Friday as scheduled, a Lake County prosecutor said.

Marni Yang, 43, faces up to life in prison for the Oct. 4, 2007 slayings of Rhoni Reuter and Reuter’s unborn child.

A Lake County jury convicted Yang of first-degree murder and intentional homicide of an unborn child on March 14.

Yang was scheduled to appear Friday before Associate Judge Christopher Stride for sentencing, but Assistant State’s Attorney Patricia Fix said Thursday that hearing has been canceled.

Fix said attorneys on both sides of the case are working to select a new date for the sentencing hearing that will probably be sometime in May or early June.
