Lake Zurich High hosts Special Olympics
Lake Zurich High School will host the Special Olympics Spring Games for Area 13 in northeastern Illinois on Saturday. Area 13 was founded in 2010 and provides programming for residents McHenry and Lake counties. Lake Zurich Unit District 95 sponsors the Special Needs Athletic Program, which is an after-school opportunity for students 8 to 18 years old. The program provides extracurricular activities for special-needs athletes and is sustained with the help of many high school student and staff volunteers. The Special Olympics Spring Games include track-and-field events beginning at 8 a.m., with opening ceremonies at 9 a.m. District 95 middle school and high school students will volunteer their time to help run the events.
