Glen Ellyn hotel fire sends 3 kids to hospital

A fire on the first floor of Americas Best Value Inn in Glen Ellyn sent three children to the hospital and forced the hotel’s evacuation Thursday afternoon, authorities said.

The Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Company responded at 2:52 p.m. to a report of fire at the hotel, 675 Roosevelt Road.

It was contained to one room but emergency responders transported three children younger than 5 to a hospital with nonlife threatening injuries, authorities said. The children were inside the room where the fire started, Glen Ellyn Deputy Police Chief Bill Holmer said.

With the help of Glen Ellyn police, authorities evacuated all occupants from the building. The York Center Fire protection district also assisted.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze quickly, but it created a lot of smoke, Holmer said.

Damage was contained to the single first-floor room where the fire started and ended. The cause is under investigation, authorities said.
