Why no pro golf tourney in Chicago?
Spring is here, and the golf courses beckon. Golfers have been fed their fill of golf glory from the Masters. What a great tournament.
Alas, Chicago is the town with no tournament. Not long ago Chicago hosted the oldest tournament in golf, the Western Open at Cog Hill. Now we have been relegated to a limited field event of about 70 players every so often called the BMW. What a let down.
To think that a market the size of Chicagoland, about 7 million to 8 million people, doesn’t rate a full-field professional golf tournament is a slap in the face.
