New principal for Batavia’s Gustafson School

A central office administrator will take over as principal at Alice Gustafson Elementary School in Batavia next year. Jan Wright, associate superintendent for teaching and learning, will replace Christine Ralston. Ralston is moving to Arkansas with her husband, whose job transferred there.

Ralston was principal at Alice Gustafson for two years.

Wright has been an associate superintendent for 11 years, working on curriculum and instructional improvements. She will still handle those duties next school year while the district searches for a replacement curriculum leader.

The district announced the move earlier this week.

Monday night, the school board hired an assistant principal for operations for Batavia High School. David Andrews will fill a vacancy left by the resignation of Chip Hickman. Come July 1, Hickman becomes the principal of Kaneland High School.

Andrews’ salary was set at $105,000.
