Des Plaines marks Arbor Day
Des Plaines will mark National Arbor Day with a tree planting ceremony at 10 a.m. Friday at Cumberland Elementary School, 700 East Golf Road.
Mayor Marty Moylan will read the city’s Arbor Day proclamation to students and other ceremony attendees before planting a tree on school grounds. The tree for this year’s ceremony was donated by Lurvey’s Garden Center.
Des Plaines has been recognized as a Tree City for 22 years. To qualify for the annual designation, the city must meet standards established by The Arbor Day Foundation and the National Association of State Foresters, which requires a viable tree management plan and program.
