Algonquin police looking for robbery suspects

Police are investigating an armed robbery that took place Friday morning in downtown Algonquin.

Officials said three Hispanic men in their late teens or early 20s entered Gold and Jewelry Direct at 130 S. Main St. at about 9:30 a.m. Friday.

The three — armed with a gun and knife — took cash and jewelry from the store before fleeing in a white Buick Sedan.

Two of the men were wearing hooded sweatshirts at the time of the robbery, while the third was wearing a knit cap, officials said.

The Buick the suspects used when fleeing the store was found still running at Huntington and Circle drives, officials said. However, police said the car had been stolen in Chicago.

The three switched to another car and fled the area, officials said.

The incident remains under investigation, officials said. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Algonquin Police Department Investigations Division at (847) 658-4531.
