College of DuPage's Naperville Center to Host Pharmacy Day April 30

DuPage County, Illinois- April 26, 2011-A new Illinois law took effect March 29, 2011, making national certification mandatory for all working Pharmacy Technicians. Illinois is one of many states enacting stricter requirements to become a Pharmacy Technician. Errors in medication distribution have caused safety concerns at pharmacies. "There are more Pharmacy Technicians than Pharmacists working in the pharmacy, it is essential that they are well trained," says Pierce, an instructor at College of DuPage, “more certification means less errors.”

"Stores in my district have lost Pharmacy Technicians because they were not able to pass the national certification exam," says Stephanie Hale, an area Pharmacy Technician. Hale reports that the new statutes have increased the demand for Pharmacy Technicians in the area. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the demand for Pharmacy Technicians is expected to increase 31 percent from 2008 to 2018.

College of DuPage is partnering with MK Education to host ‘Pharmacy Day', on Saturday April 30th at 12pm at the Naperville Center location, to educate job seekers and students about their Pharmacy Technician program. Pharmacy Technician training programs will be run at College of DuPage's Glen Ellyn, Carol Stream, and Naperville campus this summer. Interested parties should contact Kellie at (331) 481-7385 to learn more.
