Hoffman Estates standoff remains under investigation

Police and the Cook County state’s attorney’s office have yet to file charges in connection to an armed standoff late Saturday and early Sunday in Hoffman Estates.

The standoff, which lasted a little more than two hours, remains under investigation, authorities said. Police haven’t said what caused the incident, in which no one was hurt.

Officers were called to the scene shortly before 10 p.m. Saturday after police received a 911 call reporting gunshots from a home on the 200 block of East Berkley Lane.

When police arrived, they arrested one suspect, but several others remained inside the home. Police blocked off surrounding streets to ensure safety and when the suspects refused to come out, they called the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System Emergency Service Team.

The standoff ended shortly after midnight Sunday when those remaining inside the home surrendered peacefully. Police arrested three more individuals and took them to Hoffman Estates Police Department.

Authorities have not yet released their identities and, as of late Monday, charges still hadn’t been filed, Sgt. Darin Felgenhauer said.
