New members inducted into NJHS at St. James School
St. James School presented the inductees to the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) on April 15, 2011 at the Friday all school Mass. The organization creates an enthusiasm for scholarship, stimulates a desire to render service, promotes leadership, develops character, and encourages citizenship. To qualify for NJHS, students must achieve at least 6 As and no more than 3 Bs in core and non-core subjects in each of the first two trimesters of seventh grade. A candidate must have no detentions, no late work, and no disciplinary infractions. The final decision for membership is based upon five criteria: scholarship, leadership, service, character, and citizenship. The final decision for membership is made by a faculty council that seeks honorable, exemplary students in each of the criteria areas.
The seventh grade members of the NJHS for 2011-2012 are Anne Barton, Christiana Chambers, Gianna Chu, Colleen Gallagher, Daniel Gerardi, Erin Hogaboom, Michael Jones, Jack Kamysz, Daniel Kelly, Lauren Kohn, Dominic Lamick, Dana Lenard, Robert Lindgren, Kelley Maranan, Cara McCarthy, Shannon McCollum, Kaitlin McGuire, Ryan McMahon, Danielle Montella, Julia Morgan, Lucy Schiller, and Dan Swan.
Some of the projects the NJHS members do throughout the year include raking leaves for senior citizens, collecting candy for soldiers, donating money to the Children's Memorial Hospital after running a Santa's Secret Workshop at school, selling hot chocolate, and donating canned foods to food pantries.
Saint James Catholic School, a Blue Ribbon School, is dedicated to partnering with parents in modeling Christ. Our mission is to provide a foundation from which students recognize and develop their personal relationship with God, an academic culture of meaningful and continuous learning, sensitive to the gifts of each child, and tools to shape beliefs, attitudes, values, and practices in accord with the Gospel message of social justice. We are called to walk in faith, live in hope, and act in love.
