So, who isn’t paying taxes?
One common defining factor used by those who rail against the “illegals” is that they pay no taxes.
Based on the estimates of the Tax Policy Center, 45 percent of U.S. households will pay no federal income taxes for 2010. Does this mean that all of these households are composed of “illegals?”
The other major source of taxes — sales and real estate, either directly or indirectly as a component of rent — are ignored by this statistic, but I fail to see how they can be avoided. FICA, if not paid, blame the employer first. Probably it is paid with no hope of ever seeing a benefit.
