Sky holding auditions for dance team

The Chicago Sky will hold auditions for its 2011 professional junior dance team, the Sky Flight Crew, 6:30-9 p.m. Thursday, May 12, in the Skyline Room at Allstate Arena. The Sky is also now accepting applications for the Sky Rockets, the team’s amateur youth dance team.

Coordinated by Cathy Core, the creator and coach of the Chicago Bulls’ Luvabulls, the Sky Flight Crew is a professional junior dance group comprised of girls and boys between the ages of seven and fourteen. Core and a team of professional dance instructors will provide a weekly professional dance program to teach routines that will be performed on the Sky center court during eight 2011 Chicago Sky home games from June to September.

To be eligible for the Sky Flight Crew, boys and girls must be between the ages of seven and fourteen and available to participate in each of the eight home games the group is scheduled to perform. 15 dancers will be selected by Cathy Core and her staff at the audition. Chosen members will perform at eight Chicago Sky games at Allstate Arena; participate in four — eight practices per month; and receive a Sky Flight Crew uniform, three tickets for each Sky game they dance, and discounted tickets for friends and family.

The Sky Flight Crew is scheduled to perform on the following dates at Allstate Arena: Friday, June 10, Saturday June 25; Wednesday, July 13; either Wednesday July 13 or Tuesday July 26; Sunday, August 7; Friday, August 12; and Sunday, September 4.

The Sky Rockets, also coordinated and choreographed by the Luvabulls’ Cathy Core and her team of professional instructors, is a nonprofessional junior dance group comprised of girls aged seven to seventeen. Open to all eligible entrants, these girls will take part in a weekly professional dance program to learn creative dance routines which they will perform in four Chicago Sky home games.

To be eligible for the Sky Rockets, girls must be between the ages of seven and seventeen years of age. A registration fee of $150 includes: four performances at Chicago Sky Games, four practices per month at the Midtown Athletic Club in Palatine, a Sky Rockets T-shirt and matching pom-poms, two tickets to each Sky game where the dancer performs (one ticket to be used by the dancer), and discounted tickets for friends and family.

The Sky Rockets are scheduled to perform at Allstate Arena for the following Sky game dates: Friday, June 17; Saturday, July 30; Sunday, August 28; and Sunday, September 4.
