Lisle’s Houda throws no-hitter
Bekka Houda threw a no-hitter, striking out seven, and Lisle beat Geneva 1-0 in an international tiebreaker in Saturday’s championship of the Byron Invitational.
In the international tiebreaker Lisle’s Stephanie Petkovsek started at second base and advanced to third on Melanie Early’s sacrifice bunt. Mackenzie Buchelt’s sacrifice fly to center scored Petkovsek.
Lisle (11-1) earlier beat Rochelle 2-0, Buchelt going 2-for-2 with a run scored to back Early’s four-hitter. In a 6-0 win over Byron, Houda (8-0) struck out nine and Early went 3-for-3 with a triple and scored 2 runs.
WW South 9-8, Downers Grove South 6-9:Bekah Munday had 2 of WW South#146;s 6 doubles, Megan Zablock homered and WW South (13-8) scored 5 runs in the top of the seventh to rally to win Game 1.Downers Grove South turned the tables in the second game, scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the seventh with the help of 3 Tigers errors, a walk and a wild pitch. Marissa Mersch doubled twice and drove in 3 runs in the second game and went 3-for-5 with 3 RBI for the Mustangs (12-5) in the first game. Katy LaCivita homered, scored 3 runs and had 2 RBI in the second game.Timothy Christian 5-5, Wheaton Academy 2-1:Winning pitcher Marisa Voss struck out eight and went 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Trojans (5-6) in the first game, and struck out 10 in Game 2 as she threw all 14 innings and didn#146;t allow an earned run. Christina Lemon slugged a 2-run homer in a 4-run Trojans third inning in the first game. Mackenzie Schaeffer doubled in both ends of the doubleheader.Marissa Gagliano went 2-for-4 with a double and 3 stolen bases for Wheaton Academy (5-7) in Game 1 and Caitlin Koehler 2-for-3 with a walk in Game 2.
