Delivering Easter baskets — and fun memories

What better way to get the jump on Easter celebrations than a personal visit from a large rabbit?

Since 2007, the South Elgin Parks and Recreation Department has been offering #147;Peter Cottontail Delivers Goodies#148; to the residents of South Elgin.

Peter Cottontail hops on a decorated wagon resembling a basket with decorated eggs and comes to your home to deliver a spring holiday basket to children.

In 2007, 22 baskets were delivered. This year has seen a record number of baskets delivered #8212; 59.

Peter Cottontail#146;s assistants work hard to make each basket special for the children. The costs of putting the baskets together is covered by generous donations from local businesses and the participant#146;s fee, which is $27 per basket.
