Atari app offers original arcade games
Nostalgic gamers probably jumped for joy when Atari released its app for the iPhone, iPod and iPad. The app offers 100 of the company’s games originally designed for the arcade and the Atari 2600 console, and offers the option for multi-player over Bluetooth.
But let the buyer beware. The app comes pre-loaded with Pong, but users must pay for more games. Atari offers 25 game packs for 99 cents each, or you can get all the games for $15. So while the app certainly offers a great opportunity to relive past glories, at its heart it’s a no-frills reproduction of the original games that can get expensive quickly. If you’re only interested in Pong, download away. If you’re looking for good gaming, perhaps you should take a pass on this one. Free, for iOS devices.
In addition, Research in Motion recently released a new version of its official Twitter app. The release is nothing flashy, but it does add a few handy features that the original version lacked. Any mentions of your Twitter handle are pushed to your home screen, and the app now offers autocomplete suggestions after hashtags. Any retweets you make are added to your home screen as well, a nod to feedback RIM received during its testing period. The biggest addition to the app is the option to link your tweets to your location - and to see the locations of users you follow who have also enabled the option.
All that comes in a cleaner interface that’s a breeze to navigate. These minor tweaks have made the BlackBerry Twitter app easier to use and is well worth the update. Free, for BlackBerry.
